Become a Colleague?
We are growing. As Coen anticipates becoming less active and others anticipate becoming more active, we are facing an open creative space. How will we engage the diverse streaming forces into building a heart organ that will carry the NALM further into the future? Who will sustain the impulse and stand within it? What life forms will support it?
In our autum Core Group meeting we decided to work out better and more concretely who and what the NALM Network is. Until now the NALM has been a free movement of people that work out of the same spirit but without a clearly organised network. The element of ‘being organised’ we would like to improve so that NALM can become more visible and gather more strength. However because our intention is to work within a free spiritual life, we seek an organism of a new kind, not the traditional forms of organization.
The NALM has so far many Features and Sources - We have the people that do the work everywhere and gather their insights and experiences through their work and research - We have workshops, books, exercises, projects, study and working groups. A lot of content is freely available (via books, workshops, etc.) - There is a 3 months main training. - We have our means for publicity as the website, the bulletin, the calendar, the programs and the flyers - And we have our contacts with the outer world which expresses itself in demands for projects from everywhere.
The connection to NALM is an individual decision, not as a group or institution. Individuals connect to a network of people who have a similar spiritual intention. They recognize and acknowledge one another. So far this connection to NALM was not expressed in a form.
In this free self-responsible space, we have seen that people are connecting to NALM in various ways. This diversification can be a force or a weakness, depending on how we use it. At the moment we think our sources could be used more efficiently. That’s why we would like to encourage more visibility of NALM through our network of colleagues. The visibility would make it easier for other organisms and organisations to find a relation to us. If we want to apply for financial support, for instance, we need to have a visible body that is even self carrying on the financial level. Networking costs energy, both as work and as finances. In the future it will have to be carried by the members of the network.
That is why are looking for a new step in the NALM Network: to build a professional group of ‘NALM Colleagues’ – people who are serious in taking on the NALM impulse, to share in responsibility for its development, its quality, its visibility, its presence. This does not mean being perfect; professional competence grows through doing the work. But the intention and the strength of heart and will is primary. Being a ’Colleague’ means to be known and recognized by others as a colleague, and to be willing to share in caring for the totality of the NALM impulse. It will work when colleagues cooperate, communicate, and work together. It is both an inner and an outer question.
When this is one’s inner intention, then it could be made outwardly visible in practical ways. For instance: - NALM Colleagues use the name and logo on their course publicity where appropriate, and announce themselves as ‘a NALM Associate’ or ‘NALM Colleague’. - They may be called on with confidence to take on requests for courses, projects, new contacts, assistance with special tasks, training work, etc. (This does not exclude others also being called on who are ‘on the way’ but not at present wanting to be responsible and identified as an Associate.) - Colleagues may announce their courses in the NALM Calendar or Academy prospectus, and may be asked to contribute to costs for their advertising. They may also be listed on the NALM website. - Colleagues may offer courses that are recognized as preparation for the Adult Educators Course, or courses for further professional development, in cooperation with the Academy for New Learning. Trainees or newer becoming colleagues may approach Colleagues, to assist, or apprentice, or find mentoring support. - Colleagues will have access to password on the website, for research papers, new developments and exercises, or other material not intended for public presentation. - NALM Colleagues confirm this relationship with financial support, by an annual contribution of 100 Euro (or more!). They may also contribute a % of course revenues to NALM, as a free gift where possible. (This has already been practiced by some colleagues as 10% donation, for bursary support for the Adult Educators Course.)
Are you one of those who will build a heart vessel to carry the NALM through the moving waters of its next phase? The Core Group will begin this process. You may also contact them to express your interest or support or wish to participate. At this time confirmation will be by letter, as a conscious deed.
Every spiritual initiative comes from two sides: the individual will and the recognition by others. This principle we will work with in building connections among the NALM Colleagues.
There will also be many people who do not want to take on responsibility at this time. Perhaps they feel more like a coworker, trainee, supporter, or client, etc. They will still be included in the totality of the networking, its contacts, interest, or support, and will be on the NALM mailing list for communications. We seek an organism that can grow, that is inclusive not exclusive, and engages the independent free human spirit.
