Wie ?

Origins of NALM
The people listed on this page are some of the researchers out of whose work the NALM has developed.

Coenraad van Houten
Coenraad van Houten was born in the Netherlands in 1922. After studying Chemistry, Economics, and 'Social Pedagogy', he lived and worked in Holland, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Britain as a manager in business, as a consultant, and as the director of the Centre for Social Development (which he co-founded). He has developed specialist programmes and seminars for educating adults, and presently advises organizations on training schemes. He is the author of Awakening the Will and Practising Destiny and the co-founder of the New Adult Learning Movement.

Shirley Routledge
Shirley was born in Canada in 1935. She gained her education through work experience, taking on initiatives in relation to anthroposophy. Two major initiatives were the Toronto Waldorf School for education of children and the Rudolf Steiner Centre Toronto for adult education. She identified her career as "possible-maker". Following training at the Centre for Social Development in England, she moved there in 1989 to pioneer yet another initiative, the Anthroposopohical Schooling Course, with Coenraad van Houten and others. Ten years later its development culminated in the international New Adult Learning Movement, as a free association of individuals who carry a common intention.

Jaak Hillen

Jaak Hillen is living as a free artist and specialised in creative processes. He discovered in his career that the force of the creative process can change lives. He organises workshops and courses and participates in several trainings in Europe to work with creativity.

He is born in 1959, studied curative education in the ‘IPSOC’ in Kortrijk and in Zeist (Netherlands). After that he studied sculpture in the Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences (Germany), in the KASK in Gent and in the HISK in Antwerp. In 2001 he did a three months training in ‘Adult Education’ with Coenraad van Houten. Since 2002 he became co worker and trainer in the NALM.
